По Русски - под катом )

So we played in a competition last Saturday. We lost. Literally - we were last. But there were only two groups competing, so we got the second place.
Why? A few reasons. Repertoire-wise, we weren't as much of a "duo" as the other duo. We were really solo and accompanement, playing a bunch of Orekhov's arrangements, and they were split evenly. That pretty much gave them the first place.
But ultimately I blame the audience :) The bastards liked our playing and showed it, and in response to that we pulled out all the stops and completely forgot about the judges. That caused one derailment, which we have recovered for the audience, but not for the judges.
Anyway, it was a blast. After the competition a bunch of people came over. Many of them thought we were improvising - the ultimate compliment.

Then on Sunday we saw the LA guitar quartet. That was some freakishly coordinated playing. And amazing interpretation of classical stuff - it all was very clear, and it all made sense. They played a handful of classical, and some crossover into bluegrass/rock/flamenco, and they rocked. It was the best concert I saw this year.
